The bestselling author of The Sellout tells the explosive story of the government’s crackdown on insider-trading networks—an investigation that has already racked up more than 60 convictions. In Circle of Friends, award-winning journalist Charles Gasparino—one of Wall Street's most knowledgeable observers—follows government investigators and prosecutors as they pursue one of the most aggressive and broad-reaching series of insider-trading cases in the nation's history. A richly textured page-turner of investigative journalism based on extensive reporting, Circle of Friends chronicles the massive federal crackdown that has already put some of the biggest names on Wall Street behind bars, including Raj Rajaratnam, founder of the Galleon Group, and Rajat Gupta, a former CEO of consulting giant McKinsey & Co. Other similarly sized targets are still waiting nervously, including the biggest one of them all—financial impresario Steve Cohen of SAC Capital, the giant hedge fund that has confounded regulators for years by cranking out a steady stream of market-busting returns. Gasparino goes behind the headlines to reveal how the government makes its case, using every tool at its disposal—and at great expense to taxpayers—to supposedly make the investing world safer for average Americans. Gasparino asks why federal officials are so eager to prosecute these cases: What is the real damage to individuals? Do average investors really care? He explores why insider trading is all the rage these days when the U.S. government has failed to bring a single criminal case against the culprits who caused the 2008 financial crisis. Circle of Friends is not a defense of insider trading, but it does offer an account of the politics of Wall Street crime fighting, revealing the behind-the-scenes ambitions that motivate headlines and burnish political careers. A riveting work of narrative nonfiction, as engrossing and explosive as fictional thrillers of the finest magnitude, Circle of Friends is a wakeup call to the investing public.

Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: 2,3, University of Regensburg (Anglistik), course: Hauptseminar: Modern Romance, language: English, abstract: And they all lived happily ever after... This is the typical ending of a romance novel. Why does it always have to be a happy end? What happens to the story if it does not end this way and how does the reader react? These are central questions I want to examine in this paper. Therefore I will look at Maeve Binchy's Circle of Friends and the film version of the novel. My first step is to investigate the general structure of typical romances and the special meaning of the ending for a novel. Afterwards, with focus on the ending, I want to show how Circle of Friends deviates from these conventions. For this purpose I will also look in greater detail at the heroine in the novel. Another central question of my paper is why women read romance novels and how readers are influenced by an unusual ending of a book. In my last point I want to compare the ending of the novel Circle of Friends with the one of the film. All in all, this paper should illustrate that Circle of Friends is a special kind of romance which influences our reception of the story.

Armed with a winning attitude and genuine spirit, Lori appears destined for success. Yet despite her certainty in the pool, something inhibits Lori from achieving her full potential. Her focus on swimming has left little time for relationships. Lacking in confidence, Lori’s light has few opportunities to shine. When an altercation with the school bullies brings her to the attention of the star quarterback, Lori finds herself in a unique position. Jason’s affections renew her hope and force the shy swimmer out of her comfort zone. But, will it be enough to achieve her lifelong dream? “L. Diane Wolfe expertly combines the social interaction between teens and realistic problems that face our teens today for a genuine feel good novel.” - Donna M. McDine, Children's Author & Member SCBWI “I would recommend this as a good series for teens to read- especially as an alternative to Twilight.” – The Bluestocking Guide “Lori Anders is such a positive influence for anyone. She shows complete devotion to those she loves, and an unwavering determination to reach her dreams... Overall, anyone that picks up LORI will come away with a warm feeling by the end of her journey.” – Teens Read Too
