This IBM® Redbooks® publication introduces the IBM System z® Personal Development Tool (zPDT), which runs on an underlying Linux system based on an Intel processor. zPDT provides a System z system on a PC capable of running current System z operating systems, including emulation of selected System z I/O devices and control units. It is intended as a development, demonstration, and learning platform; it is not designed as a production system. This book, discussing more advanced topics, is the last of three volumes. The first volume introduces zPDT and provides reference material for zPDT commands and device managers. The second volume describes the installation of zPDT (including the underlying Linux, and a particular z/OS® distribution) and basic usage patterns. A major goal of operating systems is to process jobs while making the best use of system resources. Thus, one way of viewing operating systems is as resource managers. Before job processing, operating systems reserve input and output resources for jobs. During job processing, operating systems manage resources such as processors and storage. After job processing, operating systems free all resources used by the completed jobs, making the resources available to other jobs. This process is called resource management. There is more to the processing of jobs than the managing of resources needed by the jobs. At any instant, a number of jobs can be in various stages of preparation, processing, and post-processing activity. To use resources efficiently, operating systems divide jobs into parts. They distribute the parts of jobs to queues to wait for needed resources. Keeping track of where things are and routing work from queue to queue is called workflow management, and is a major function of any operating system. Diese Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Wiederaufbau und der Integration einer unbekannten industriellen 915MHz MCPR-Anlage (microwave cavity plasma reactor), für die Herstellung von CVD-Diamanten. Dabei wird umfangreich über den Stand der Technik bei relevanten CVD-Reaktoren, Anwendungsmöglichkeiten, Synthese und Materialeigenschaften von synthetischen Diamanten eingegangen. Weiterhin wird der Aufbau und die Wirkungsweise der MCPR-Reaktoranlage beschrieben. Neben der Analyse der Ausgangsbedingungen wird auf die Umsetzung der Teilprobleme wie den Wiederaufbau des Mikrowellensystems, Vakuumanlage, Prozessgassystem und das Wasserkühlsystem eingegangen, wobei spezifische Probleme (Design, Funktion, Fehler, notwendige Änderungen) analysiert und Lösungen besprochen werden. This study is based on research which I conducted in the Netherlands in 1948 and 1949. In addition, I was able to rely on experiences and impressions of the 1944-1946 period, when I was stationed in the Low Countries as a United States Army Military Intelligence Officer. In my description of Dutch purge measures I have attempte~ to be as unbiased a judge as possible; whenever I was unable to arrive at a definite conclusion I con tented myself with describing the opposing points of view. I am quite aware that this attitude of "neutrality" may be criticized, not only by many ex-Resistance men who have become dis gusted with the alleged softness of the purge, but also by many others who appear equally dismayed about its severity. For purposes of comparison, readers who are familiar with action against collaborators in other countries - such as France, Italy, or the Balkans - may note that the Dutch purge was not dominated by considerations of party politics. All Dutchme- employers and workers, Protestants and Catholics, Conservatives and Socialists - had been united in their resistance against the enemy. Consequently, disagreements about purge measures did not follow class, religious, or party lines. The few Dutch Commu nists had never been able to dominate the Resistance; neither were they able to exploit the purge for their purposes. Thus, in Holland problems of collaboration and purge could be studied in their purest form, without consideration of other factors.

Presenting a study of regime transition, political transformation, and the challenges that faced the post-Communist republics of Central Asia on independence, this book focuses on the process of transition in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and the obstacles that these newly-independent states are facing in the post-Communist period. The book analyses how in the early stages of their independence, the governments of Central Asia declared that they would build democratic states, but that in practice, they demonstrated that they are more inclined towards authoritarianism. With the declaration of independence, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, like many other former Soviet national republics, were faced with the issues of nationalism, ethnicity, identity and territorial delimitation. This book looks at how the discourse of patrimonial nationalism in post-Communist Tajikistan and Uzbekistan has been the elites’ strategy to address all these issues: to maintain the stateness of their respective countries; to preserve the unity of their nation; to fill the ideological void of post-Communism; to prevent the rise of Islam; and to legitimize their authoritarian practice. Arguing against the claim that the Central Asian states have undergone divergent paths of transition, the book discusses how they are in fact all authoritarian, although exhibiting different degrees of authoritarianism.
